The Man That I Am
2021
Unfired earthenware clay, mica-based glitter, chalk line
Dimensions variable, life sized
GP: This installation was my way of visualizing markers of “masculinity” that I had encountered while growing up in contrast with my own genderqueer trans experience. I used clay to reference from memory, an assortment of items that I found while rifling through my stepfather’s things as a child. Considering that he subjected me to considerable abuse and ostracization on account of my queerness, I find irony in using the same things as an adult, excepting the sex toy (mine) and the ammo (his).
